We have been working for the last few days to add SSL support to the ircd. This has resulted in a test server being linked to the network supporting SSL. We encourage you to connect to this test server, as additional userload will help to get the bugs worked out.
To connect to the server, you can do one of the following:
mIRC: /server -m ircd-dev.dereferenced.org +9999
XChat or Conspire: /newserver ircd-dev.dereferenced.org +9999
irc.darkwire.ru has been test linked to the network. Provided there is no problems with this testlink, they will be permlinked on April 10.
The server is located in Russia, and should provide a low latency connection for users in russia and surrounding countries (Poland, the Ukraine, etcetera), and is administrated by dwr.
It has finally happened, Slacked.org has merged with StaticBox. We started talking about the whole merging idea way back in 2006. But due to both networks being busy with other things the merge never happened.
Basicly nothing will change for the slacked.org users, they can still connect to their favorite Slacked servers. The only thing that changes is that there are now more users and channels.
We have merged our services databases together as well. So nothing (channels nicknames/accounts) has been lost.
StaticBox needs a charter! Since StaticBox is a network run by the users themselves, we encourage you to participate in our drafting process. Also, we have an IRC channel for discussing it on the network, #charter. Thanks!
Please leave any comments on the wiki, and not on this post.
The StaticBox network has always cared a great deal for its users. That's why we are asking you how we can improve our irc network, website and forum.
You have been dying to tell us your ideas or suggestions for either the network or website, now is your chance to share them with us. Tell us what we are doing wrong (or right) and tell us what we can do to improve the network for you.
You may have noticed that there was a poll up about the choice of forum software, well it's obvious that most people like phpBB as their favorite forum.
As a result I have chosen to go with phpBB for the StaticBox forum. Go ahead and check it out. Click on Forum on the upper menu and register an account. It is pretty empty right now, but I encourage you to register and post topics.
As usual we would like to know your opinion. So feel free to post your desires and wishes in the forum (new categories, etc).
The StaticBox administration wishes everyone a happy new year. We hope 2008 will be a great year for you.
So the best of luck in 2008 and a good health.
We hope everyone got home safely after the many, many, many drinks last night :)
We have recently installed a webchat module for our website so that our users who don't have access to mirc (work, school, etc) are still able to chat on Staticbox.
All you have to do is click on the Web Chat link in the left menu and a java window will pop up after a few moments. After that you are ready to chat on your favorite chat network.
If you should experience any problems feel free to report them here.
