TOR access now available on StaticBox

After a long history of disallowing Tor connections on StaticBox, we are now allowing Tor users to connect via a hidden service: 4oldvxpwu4bw7e25.onion. We hope this will be useful to users in certain countries that have been blocked from being able to access StaticBox.

We're banned by Poland ISPs. 1337.

It has come to our attention that we have been banned in the country known as Poland. Possible workarounds while we get this sorted out include:

Connecting with SSL to the IP 64.62.141.42 (irc.dereferenced.org).
Waiting about 24 hours until we get a Tor enclave set up, at which point the address will be posted here.

If anyone has a clue-by-four we can borrow to get this sorted, please let us know. Thanks.

Update: This appears to be some Polish government-mandated block. Has anyone ever heard of such a thing?

irc.meganet.us has been permanantly linked to the network. The vote concluded with 100% of participants voting YES, resulting in a majority being reached quickly. The server will still be in probationary status until August 19th.

irc.meganet.us testlinked

irc.meganet.us has been linked to the network. It is adminstrated by betrayed, and has no restrictions. Provided there are no problems with the link, he will become permanantly linked on August 5th.

Services outages: July 8 and July 31

There will be two outage windows for Services in July. The first one is completed on today July 8, taking an hour or so longer than the expected outage window. This was due to a mistake made by one of SystemInPlace's technicians while working on the server which hosts Services and the primary US hub. These outages are to deal with a drive failure which is threatening data integrity on that machine; the first outage was to identify and pull the drive which was problematic, the second outage is to replace the drives in multiple stages to ensure that the machine is running on 100% new drives.

Learning from my mistake with estimating the outage window for the first outage, I'm going to estimate that the next outage will be 2 or 3 hours long. The date for this outage is not set yet, as it depends on how fast we receive the replacement drives from Western Digital.

Added Mibbit irc chat

You can now use our mibbit irc chat module on this website to connect to StaticBox.net to chat.

Just click on Live IRC Chat on the right sidebar and a chat client will open.

This is particularly useful if you are at work or at school and you can't install your favorite irc client.

Routing changes should improve network stability

This morning we decommissioned our hub in Sweden, which has been facing stability issues for the last two months. We feel that this change should improve network stability by reducing netsplits.

SSL added on StaticBox

The wait is over. StaticBox now officially supports SSL.

Now only a few servers have ssl enabled but in a few weeks most of your favorite client servers should have ssl enabled. Till then use our ssl dns pool to connect to a random ssl enabled server.

You can connect to ssl.staticbox.net on port 6697 using your favorite irc client.

irc.darkwire.ru has been test linked to the network for a while now. We did not encounter any problems with the testlink so therefor they are now permlinked.

The server is located in Russia, and should provide a low latency connection for users in russia and surrounding countries (Poland, the Ukraine, etcetera), and is administrated by dwr.
