After a long history of disallowing Tor connections on StaticBox, we are now allowing Tor users to connect via a hidden service: 4oldvxpwu4bw7e25.onion. We hope this will be useful to users in certain countries that have been blocked from being able to access StaticBox.
To connect to Tor, simply do /server 4oldvxpwu4bw7e25.onion -- this should just work, provided that your client uses SOCKS5 for DNS resolution when running with a proxy. If it does not, you can take advantage of Tor's mapaddress feature, which will allow you to map our hidden service ID to an arbitrary IP address. To do so, add the following to your torrc file:
mapaddress 10.40.40.40 4oldvxpwu4bw7e25.onion
This will allow you to connect to 10.40.40.40 and gain access to our hidden service.
Please note that this is in an experimental state at present, and if there is problems with it, that we will likely disallow Tor access again.
How can I keep Tor users out of my channel?
If you want to keep Tor users out of your channel, simply block Tor using an AKICK. This can be accomplished by doing the following:
/cs akick #channel add *!*@*.tor-session.staticbox.net Tor users are not allowed on this channel due to policy reasons.
If you have any questions about our updated Tor policy, please ask on #staticbox. Thanks!
